Origin and Species
Thuya wood comes from the Thuya tree (Tetraclinis articulata), a slow-growing conifer native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and parts of North Africa. The most valuable portion is the root burl, a dense, twisted mass of wood that produces the distinctive “eye” patterns in the grain. Thuya trees take decades to mature, and burls are scarce, making the wood highly sought after for luxury woodworking.
