Choosing the right resin casting mould can make casting easier, reduce waste and help produce more consistent results. Two of the most useful options are HDPE moulds and silicone moulds, but each has different advantages.
HDPE resin casting moulds
HDPE moulds are rigid, reusable casting moulds well suited to regular resin casting. Their solid construction makes them useful when you want consistent dimensions and a mould that can be used repeatedly.
At Nash Woodcrafts we stock HDPE moulds for pen blanks and other resin casting projects. Browse our HDPE Pen Blank & Resin Casting Moulds.
Silicone resin casting moulds
Silicone moulds are flexible, which makes removing cured castings straightforward. They are particularly useful for shapes or designs where a flexible mould makes demoulding easier.

What are Less-Resin moulds?
Our Less-Resin casting moulds are designed to reduce the amount of resin needed when casting for compatible pen kits and other specific projects. Instead of casting a larger blank and turning away more material, the mould is designed around the intended casting size. This can reduce resin waste and the amount of material that needs to be removed later.
Many of our Less-Resin designs are made in-house here in the UK. Browse the Less-Resin Casting Moulds.
HDPE or silicone: which should you choose?
Choose an HDPE mould when you want a rigid, durable mould with consistent dimensions. Choose silicone when flexibility and easy demoulding are more important. For compatible pen kits, a Less-Resin mould can be particularly useful when reducing resin usage is a priority.
There is no single mould type that is best for every casting job. The right choice depends on what you are casting, the finished dimensions you need and how you prefer to work.
Pressure pot resin casting
If you are using a pressure pot, mould choice is only one part of the process. Correct resin preparation, suitable equipment and sensible pressure-pot practice all contribute to reliable results.
